For me, I find my mind split into two universes:

Following a line of logic that has only grown stronger in the last 15 years, I imagine a future 2050 where humanity is just no longer in charge. Whether that means we are extinct is much harder to fathom.

But, however logical that line of reasoning is, it's conclusion just seems too fantastical to be believed, so I ALSO think about the consequences for my child's education and climate change as if that first reality did not exist. Its not about redefining terms around AGI, it is just too crazy seeming, so for planning purposes it just seems ill-advised to assume it will be true.

(Of course humanity's present course of action treats this very plausible future more or less as an impossibility. This ALSO seems quite ill-advised!)
