I recently returned from a wonderful trip to Mexico back to the bitter cold of Boston, Massachusetts. While in Mexico, I traveled alone and stayed in hostels, and so got the chance to have many interesting conversations with fellow travelers as well as locals. My conversations frequently veered towards the peculiarities of America (especially when talking with Europeans). This got me thinking about how my own childhood, normal to me, might be strange to people from elsewhere. Hence, this listicle.
